NEW YEAR | NEW GOALS

It's the start of a brand new year! To me, that screams new chances, new goals, & a whole year that I can't possibly plan out. If I learned anything from 2017, it was that this is possibly the largest way that God asks me to trust Him -- each month, each day, each minute is up to his design, not my own.

2017 Goals | A true testament of how practicing every day influences your lettering style. I'm slightly embarrassed looking back at this, but we all start somewhere. Practice makes progress, friends.

As I laid in bed next to my husband on New Years Eve after the ball dropped and fireworks were over, we reflected over how God has challenged us, stretched us, and blessed us throughout 2017. Isn't it crazy that New Years Eve causes us to think about all things that have happened throughout the year? Some people are so happy to see the year go because it was filled with hardships & heartache while others cry happy tears as they think about how wonderful the year has been & that 2018 couldn't possibly top it.

At the beginning of 2017 I set some very broad & vague goals. To be honest, I think I was afraid -- afraid of where the year would take me, if All Things Lu would even take off, if people would even care... you get the idea. While I feel awesome saying that I did accomplish each of these goals in some sort of way, I spent most of the year feeling unsuccessful & unfulfilled.

Earlier this week I told my mailing list that I am really challenging myself to achieve several BIG goals in 2018. While I want to continue to "grow the business", I also want to get specific enough to where I truly must check each of them off. I share all of these with you because I want you to help keep me accountable. If there are things you want to see, share those with me in the comment box below!

IN THE SHOP

I hope to introduce lettered cards & envelopes into my shop, available for individual sale or sold in boxed sets. Invitation suites will become available as well (something I am very excited about!). I also will be updating all envelope calligraphy samples and wood sign materials will change to produce more durable signs. Many products will be getting a facelift this year to be more current with my lettering style.

WEBSITE | SOCIAL MEDIA

Blog. Blog. Blog | I get asked all the time if I can share tips & tricks for different projects. This year, I intend on giving you more updates, personal posts, and behind the scenes of projects.

Top 5 | I want to share with you all more about me -- the heart behind the pretty pictures -- by sharing with you more than just products I make. You will start seeing my face a lot more, as well as digital lettering, family & my dog, Jesus, and so much more!

Website Updates | I have slacked on updating my website information & pictures this past year. My goal is to constantly be creating fresh content & updating it in a more timely manner.

Reach 1,200 Followers | I gain more support each & every day. While followers aren't everything, the recognition, likes, comments, & sharing of posts truly makes a difference! Thanks for all of you who already follow me & support this dream of mine!

Personal growth

Be Present. Be Original. Be Transparent. | Content must be created, not copied. I have heard so many stories of work by other calligraphers being copied and this year I don't want to be tempted to do the same. What growth comes out of copying someone else? If anything, it takes you two steps backward. We must all join together to encourage each other and not try to rob others of the attention they are rightfully due.

Stress Less | Stressed work is not my best work. Since I am a one-man-shop, I can only work so fast & still have a life. I love what I do & never want the stress to outweigh the passion I have for creating beautiful pieces.

More Lettering Styles |  I feel like I have learned so much over the past year and developed my own lettering style throughout that process. I hope to learn even more lettering styles this year and incorporate them into my pieces.

Teach a Lettering Class |  While I know we will be moving (possibly twice) in 2018 for the military, I am optimistic that an opportunity will come up for me to teach others about what I am most passionate about. This is something I have only dreamed of until now!

Spiritual Growth | My spiritual life is so important to me and I want to continue to incorporate scripture and bible lettering into my feed. I was gifted two special Christmas presents this year that I hope will help me grow in my faith & lettering this year -- The Lettering Prayer Journal by Krystal Whitten (@krystalwhitten on Instagram if you want to check her out!) & the ESV Interleaved Journaling Bible. More to come on these!

While I know that things can change as quickly as they came, I am hopeful for what this year will bring for All Things Lu! As always, feel free to reach out -- I would love to hear from you all!

Blessings,
